If I took anything away from this past working-year it’s the value of time. With my projects constantly shifting client priorities I started reaching my limit. I had less time than I did before. I was working more hours. I even pulled two all-nighters in December, something I hadn’t done in years. I noticed this effected my quality of work, and quality of life. Time was a valued commodity — and that’s what hit home when I watched Dr. Randy Pausch’s Lecture on Time Management.

You may remember the late Dr. Randy Pausch from his famous Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams. But this video is different, and it’s also well worth the watch. Enjoy.

Just count the number of hours you watch television in the next week. That’s my gift to you…

…If you have changed things then you probably have more time to spend with the ones you love and that’s important. Time is all we have. And you may find one day you have less than you think.

-Dr. Randy Pausch

A friend of mine turned me onto Yelp, an online community of reviewers pushing their opinions on everything from dance clubs to restaurants. Yelp is very similar to Citysearch but in my opinion tis much better. It’s seriously awesome! Forget the dance clubs and botique shop reviews; I use this for the restaurant reviews! I mean, who doesn’t love food?

Years back I did contract work in Glendale often working until 2 in the morning. On some evenings I’d find myself somewhere in Eagle Rock at 11pm trotting up to a catering truck painted the name Rambo’s. Rambo’s was one of many (Leo’s was another favorite) cult-taco trucks. Unfortunately I never rembered where they were…until I asked my fellow Yelpers. Not only did I find where the Rambo truck parks in Eagle Rock, but I found God’s gift to post-belligerent childeren of the night: The Great Taco Hunt website. Ahh yes, the unofficial guide to the Los Angeles taco scene.

Texture is everything to me. I love things that you can bite into without chewing, stuff like Starbursts and chocolates. Gummy worms and gummy bears take a back seat to chewy cookies and chewy chewies. Wookies not included. Gummy bears are fine but damn, feels like chewing fleshy tendon.

It’s lunch time and I don’t feel like going out. I get my ass up and run downstairs (to our not so amazing cafeteria) and pick up some grilled chicken, okra and rice. Okra? Haven’t had that in a while. Slimy. Like I said, texture is everything to me and this falls under the “gummy” category. But you know, I’ll eat it if it’s good for me. I should check. Not everything green is good.

But really now, is okra good for me? A quick Google brought me to this awesome website: NutritionData. Simple searching provided me with a simple fact that okra is a healthy veggie (I think I like hearing myself say OWE-KRUH). Moral of the story: I learned how to put pictures in my blog. NutritionData is pretty awesome, I highly recommend it.
